Direct Video File Upload

Upload video files directly to CastHub

CastHub accepts direct uploads of video files in addition to YouTube and Vimeo URLs. Direct upload is the right choice when you want consistent playback that does not depend on a third-party service, when the video should not be discoverable elsewhere, or when screens may be in an environment with limited internet.

Add a video file to a presentation

Open or create a presentation. Choose Add Video File, select your video, and wait for the upload to finish. CastHub processes the file and adds it as a slide. Save the presentation.

Supported formats

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the most reliable format across all playback platforms. Other common containers are accepted and re-encoded as needed.

File size considerations

Larger files take longer to upload and longer for screens to cache. For most signage use cases, target a clip length of 30 to 90 seconds and a resolution of 1080p. Higher resolutions are accepted but add upload time and bandwidth without much visible difference at typical screen distances.

When to use a URL instead

Use a Video URL slide pointing at YouTube or Vimeo when the video already lives there and is meant to be public, or when you want viewer counts and analytics from the hosting platform. Direct upload and URL slides can coexist in the same presentation.

Platform support

Uploaded video files play on Android TV, Amazon Signage Stick, Apple TV, and Roku. They do not play on Tizen TV. Uploaded video files cache for offline playback on platforms that support offline caching.
