Set up offline playback
Offline playback lets supported screens keep playing during a temporary internet outage. This article covers how to enable it, which slide types work, and how to verify a device is ready before an outage.
1. Open the presentation
From the Presentations page, open the presentation that should keep playing offline.
2. Use offline-compatible slides
The slide types that cache for offline use are uploaded images, image URL slides, and uploaded video files. Web page slides and external video URL slides require the internet at playback time and will not display offline.
3. Turn on Make available offline
In the presentation editor, check the Make available offline box. Save the presentation.
4. Assign the presentation to the device group
From the Devices page, set the group’s Presentation to the offline-enabled presentation. The device will start downloading content on its next sync.
5. Wait for the cache to complete
Keep the device online until caching finishes. On the Devices page, the Presentation Cached column shows Cached when the device has the full presentation locally. This step is the most-skipped one: a device that goes offline before caching finishes cannot play the offline content.
Platform support
Offline playback works on Android TV, Amazon Signage Stick, and Apple TV for all offline-compatible slide types. Tizen caches images only. Roku does not cache content for offline playback.
Behavior during an outage
While offline, the device continues playing the last cached presentation. New content cannot be received and alerts started during the outage will not appear until the device reconnects. When the device comes back online it will sync and pick up any changes that happened while it was disconnected.
