Scheduling Device Commands on Amazon Signage Stick

Scheduled device commands

Scheduled device commands automate operational actions on Amazon Signage Stick. Use them to wake displays in the morning, put displays to sleep at close, or reboot devices on a recurring maintenance window without anyone needing to be on site.

Supported actions

Wake screen, put screen to sleep, and reboot. Daily and weekly repeat patterns are available, plus one-time scheduled actions for things like a single-night maintenance reboot.

Create a scheduled command

From the Devices page, open the Signage Stick device group and choose Device Schedules. Choose Add Schedule, name it, pick the command, choose the repeat pattern (once, daily, or weekly), pick the days for weekly schedules, set the time, and pick the time zone. Save the schedule and leave it enabled.

Time zones

Each schedule has its own time zone. For multi-location deployments where each site should wake and sleep on local time, create one schedule per location and set the time zone accordingly.

Offline behavior

Scheduled commands can run offline, but only after the device has already synced the schedule while online. The first time you create or change a schedule, keep the Signage Stick online long enough to receive the new plan. After that, due commands run locally even if the internet drops.

Two important caveats. Screenshot commands always require network access, since the image needs to upload to CastHub. One-time remote commands sent ad-hoc from the web app (separate from scheduled commands) require the device to be online to receive them; if the device is offline at the moment the command is sent, it will not be picked up later.

Common patterns

Weekday wake at 7:00 AM, weekday sleep at 9:00 PM. Weekly reboot Sunday at 3:00 AM. One-time maintenance reboot the night before a known firmware change.
