CastHub at Home
CastHub at Home: Questions and Answers
Which TVs work, where photos come from, how the calendar gets on the TV, who can add, and what it costs.
Short answers to the questions families ask before and after they start. Longer explanations live in how it works, TVs and players, setup and pricing.
What it is
What is CastHub at Home?
A subscription that shows one family’s photos, short clips, documents and shared calendar on the TVs in the family’s homes. Everyone adds from their own phone, each TV shows one album, and the person who set it up can see from anywhere whether a TV is on and what it is showing. $299 a year or $35 a month, up to 6 TVs.
Is it a digital photo frame?
No. A frame is one small screen in one room. CastHub at Home turns the TVs a family already owns, in every home, into screens that show the same albums and the same calendar, with several people adding and one person able to manage all of it from a phone.
Who is it for?
Families: a household with grandparents in another town, parents who want the children’s photos on the big screen, a family with a second home. It is for personal use. Organisations use CastHub for business on cast-hub.com.
What happened to Digital Frame TV?
CastHub at Home replaces it. Subscribers get the new app at no extra cost and sign in with the email they already use.
TVs and players
Which TVs work?
Amazon Fire TV and the Amazon Signage Stick, Apple TV (tvOS 15 or later), Android TV and Google TV, Roku, and the Samsung and LG TVs that carry the CastHub app, plus any computer or tablet through https://player.cast-hub.com.
Which one should I buy?
The Amazon Signage Stick (about $100). It plugs into any TV’s HDMI port, has the app already on it, and is the only player the app can switch on and off, give quiet hours, restart, and ask for a picture of the screen.
What are the Samsung limits?
On a Samsung TV the app shows photos and documents only: no clips, no calendar. A Signage Stick on the Samsung’s HDMI port removes those limits.
Does the calendar show on Roku?
No. Roku shows photos, clips and documents, not the calendar.
Why does the TV go dark after a while?
The TV or player’s own sleep or screensaver setting. Turn it off in the device’s settings. A Signage Stick does not do this.
Photos, albums and the calendar
Where do the photos come from?
From each person’s phone, through the app: the phone’s photo library, including iCloud Photos on an iPhone. CastHub at Home does not pull photos in from Google Photos, Amazon Photos or a shared iCloud album by itself.
Can I put a chore chart or the week’s menu on the TV?
Yes. Add a PDF or PowerPoint file from the phone’s Files; each page becomes one screen. Make it in PowerPoint, Keynote or Canva and save it as a PDF.
How does the calendar work?
Paste the calendar’s iCal link once (Google: Secret address in iCal format; Apple: Public Calendar link; Outlook.com: published ICS link). Add the calendar to an album as a week, the next three days or a month. The TV reads it again about every 15 minutes. It needs the TV online, and it does not show on Samsung or Roku.
Can several TVs show the same album?
Yes. Each TV shows one album, and any number of TVs in any home can show the same one.
Does it play video?
Short clips from the phone, yes, on every player except Samsung TVs.
People
How do grandparents add photos?
Invite them from the People tab by email. They set a password, open the app on their own phone and add photos to any album.
Who is the owner?
The person who created the family. The owner holds the plan and is the only one who sees billing. Everyone else is a contributor: they add photos and manage the TVs of the homes they were added to.
Can I sign in with Google or Apple?
Not yet. Sign in with the email and password the family was created with.
Cass, the assistant
What is Cass?
The assistant inside the app. Ask in plain words to put the calendar on the kitchen TV, make an album, set quiet hours, make a countdown card, or find out what Grandma’s TV is showing. Cass shows the change first; you tap Do it or Not now.
Does Cass look at our photos?
No. Cass does not look at the photos in an album. A picture of what a TV is showing is put in front of the person who asked for it, not read by Cass.
Can Cass delete things?
No. Cass never deletes an album, a photo, a TV or a person.
Price, trial and billing
How much does it cost?
$299 a year or $35 a month. One plan, up to 6 TVs, any number of homes and people, nothing to add on.
Is there a trial?
The trial lasts 14 days and needs a card on file. Nothing is charged until the trial ends, and cancelling during the trial means no charge at all.
How do I cancel?
The owner cancels from the billing page in the app or by email to support@cast-hub.com. The plan runs to the end of the period already paid for.
Where can it be bought?
With a billing address in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Brazil.
Privacy and support
Who can see our photos?
The people in your family who you invited, on the TVs you chose. Nothing is public and nothing is shared with anyone else.
How do I get help?
Ask Cass in the app, or email support@cast-hub.com. Team CastHub answers by email; there is no phone line.
