Slack Messages on Office TVs
Which Slack posts work on a break-room TV, how to set up the channel feed, and how one feed scales across several offices.
Push Slack messages to digital signage by configuring a Slack Incoming Webhook in the channel you want to display, connecting it to the CMS, and selecting which screens render the feed. Messages posted to the configured channel appear on screens within 15 to 30 seconds. The setup takes about 15 minutes and works for company-wide announcements, executive updates, and team-specific bulletins.
A Slack admin or internal-comms manager can use break-room and hallway screens to push live messages from designated Slack channels, executive announcements, all-hands posts, team milestones, and emergency notices via Incoming Webhooks, replacing email blasts that deskless workers never see and giving every employee in the building access to the same information stream their desk-bound colleagues already get in Slack.
How do you connect Slack to digital signage?
In Slack, create an Incoming Webhook for the target channel (for example, #announcements). Copy the webhook URL. In the CMS, add a Slack widget, paste the webhook URL, and configure the rendering template (avatar, message text, timestamp, channel name). Publish to designated screens. Setup takes 15 minutes. The same connect-then-render pattern applies across internal communications digital signage integrations.
| Use case | Best channel pattern | Update cadence |
|---|---|---|
| Company-wide announcements | #all-hands or #announcements | As posted |
| Executive updates | #ceo-updates | Weekly |
| Team milestones | #wins | As posted |
| Emergency alerts | Dedicated #emergency | As triggered |
| Office-specific news | #[location]-announcements | Daily |
What Slack content works on a screen and what does not?
Works: short text announcements, executive posts, milestone celebrations, emergency notices, links to all-hands recordings. Does not work: long threads, technical discussions, code snippets, GIF spam, anything that requires scrolling. The screen surface is glanceable; choose channels and message types accordingly. A dedicated #signage-feed channel or specific message tagging (such as a [POST] prefix) keeps the feed clean without polluting the source channel.
Can the screen display Slack messages from multiple channels?
Yes. Configure multiple webhooks (one per channel). The CMS rotates messages or zones the layout: top zone for #all-hands, bottom for #wins. Most setups limit to 2 to 3 channels per screen to avoid clutter. The rotation interval typically runs 15 to 30 seconds per message, long enough to read at a glance but short enough that the feed stays current.
What is the difference between Slack webhooks and the Slack API?
Webhooks are one-way push: Slack sends data to your CMS endpoint when a message posts. The Events API is broader: your CMS subscribes to specific events (message.posted, reaction.added) and Slack pushes them. For most signage use cases, Incoming Webhooks are sufficient. The Events API matters when you want to filter on keywords or react to specific reactions. The same architecture supports KPI dashboards pulling from BI platforms.
Can AI agents post to screens through Slack?
Yes via the CastHub MCP server. An AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT) can publish to screens directly, bypassing Slack as the intermediary. Use case: a Director of Comms types “Push the new safety briefing to all warehouse screens” to Claude. The MCP server’s start_text_alert and assign_presentation tools execute the request. The MCP server exposes 30+ tools across presentations, devices, schedules, and alerts.
Does Slack-to-screens work for multi-office companies?
Yes. Configure one webhook per office’s #local-announcements channel plus one company-wide webhook for #all-hands. Each office’s screens render its local feed plus the company-wide feed. CastHub Enterprise covers unlimited screens for $95 per month flat across all locations. The same multi-office pattern applies to employee recognition and other location-specific content streams.
