Digital Signage for Manufacturing

Where to start with plant screens: what to show, what it costs, which manufacturing systems feed them, and where OSHA rules apply.

A manufacturing shop floor with line-side displays showing OEE dashboards, andon status, and safety signage.

Digital signage for manufacturing replaces paper bulletin boards and physical andon lights with live screens that display OEE production dashboards, OSHA-compliant safety signage, shift handover summaries, andon status, and deskless-worker announcements. CastHub displays what the plant system already publishes, as a web page slide pointing at a public dashboard URL with no login, or as an image slide exported on a schedule; no direct PLC, OPC-UA or Modbus connection is documented. A typical 20-screen plant deployment costs $24,400 to $54,200 in year one, including ruggedized industrial displays, media players, integration work, and the CMS software license.

A manufacturing plant can use shop-floor screens, breakroom displays, and line-side monitors to push real-time OEE dashboards, digital andon alerts, OSHA safety notices, shift-handover summaries, and deskless-worker announcements from one centralized CMS, replacing paper bulletin boards and reducing the communication lag between production systems and the people running them.

Watch a made-up plant run every screen on the floor from the real CastHub dashboard: screens by area, a forklift safety notice from a PDF by asking Alex, the break room on a shift schedule, a dock door alert on the dock screens only, a severe weather warning on every screen, and an Amazon Signage Stick restarted and set to turn off for the weekend. Recorded October 9, 2026 (6:15). Also on YouTube.

Try the same dashboard yourself. The CastHub demo for manufacturing is set up for a parts factory and warehouse, with a shipping dock TV and a break room shift board, and Alex to change them for you or show you how.

What is digital signage for manufacturing?

Digital signage for manufacturing is a network of screens placed across production lines, breakrooms, receiving areas, and entrances, displaying whatever the plant already publishes, including dashboards built on MES, SCADA or ERP data, plus OSHA-required safety messaging. It is the only reliable channel for the deskless workforce that has no email or intranet access during shifts, distinct from internal communications digital signage used in office environments. See what is digital signage for the broader category overview.

For a manufacturing-specific decision view covering safety override messaging, live production KPI dashboards from existing analytics, shift-change scheduling, multi-plant control, and AI-assistant control through Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Cursor, see digital signage for manufacturing.

How much does digital signage for manufacturing cost?

A 5-screen small facility runs $6,100 to $12,800 in year-one total cost. A 20-screen medium facility runs $24,400 to $54,200. A 75-screen large facility runs $89,000 to $202,000. Industrial-grade displays carry a 30 to 50% premium over standard commercial panels, and facilities with concrete walls or complex cable routing land at the higher end of installation cost. See the full digital signage pricing breakdown for category-wide cost ranges.

What does an OEE production dashboard show on a screen?

An OEE production dashboard shows real-time Overall Equipment Effectiveness (Availability x Performance x Quality), units produced against target, cycle time, current downtime reasons, and shift-level history. CastHub shows the board the plant system already publishes, as a web page slide pointing at a public dashboard URL from Power BI, Grafana, Tableau or Looker Studio, or as an image slide exported on a schedule. No direct MES, SCADA or OPC-UA connection is documented. See OEE production boards on shop floor screens for the integration walkthrough.

How does a digital andon board replace physical light stacks?

Traditional three-color light stacks signal that a station has a problem but record nothing. A digital andon board displays the line status the plant andon or MES system already publishes, as a web page slide pointing at the status page that system publishes or as an image slide refreshed on a schedule, showing elapsed alert time, station ID, and shift alert history. CastHub documents no direct PLC, OPC-UA or Modbus connection. See digital andon boards for the deeper walkthrough.

Does digital signage meet OSHA requirements?

Digital signage supplements OSHA-required physical hazard markings (lockout/tagout labels, chemical hazard labels, evacuation maps) but does not replace them. It must comply with 29 CFR 1910.145 color coding (red=danger, orange=warning, yellow=caution, green=safety, blue=info) and remain legible from 5 feet. Use it for dynamic content like days-without-incident counters, rotating PPE reminders, and full-screen emergency overrides. See OSHA-compliant safety signage for the standards walkthrough.

How do you handle shift change with digital signage?

At shift change, an end-of-shift summary renders on each supervisor or workstation screen: units completed against target, open Fiix work orders, downtime events with reason codes, quality issues flagged during the shift, and priority items for the incoming shift. The outgoing supervisor adds manual notes for context the data does not capture. CastHub renders that summary as a web page slide pointing at the published handover dashboard or as an image slide, and documents no direct MES or CMMS connection. See digital shift handover boards for the steps.

Which manufacturing systems integrate with digital signage?

CastHub displays what those systems already publish rather than connecting to them. MES platforms (Plex, SAP Digital Manufacturing, Tulip, IQMS/DELMIAworks), CMMS such as Fiix, and SCADA (Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk) all publish dashboards that CastHub shows as a web page slide on a public URL or as a scheduled image slide. No direct PLC, OPC-UA or Modbus connection is documented. Power BI, Grafana, Tableau and Looker Studio work through publish-to-web. Everbridge or AlertMedia can call the inbound CastHub Emergency Alert REST API to start an override, and CastHub does not subscribe to their events. See how digital signage works for the architectural pattern.

Can AI control manufacturing digital signage?

CastHub’s published MCP server exposes approximately 58 tools across 10 domains, including device management, schedule updates, and emergency overrides, to assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Cursor. CastHub previews and confirms before a write. At 5:55am the shift supervisor types “switch all floor screens to first-shift safety briefing and pull yesterday’s OEE numbers onto the line dashboards” into Cursor. Forty-three screens across the plant update before the first worker badges in.
